Wiawaka Caretaker

Responsibilities

Daily & Seasonal Property Care

  • Perform daily protocols with routine inspections of the property for safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.

  • Maintain lawns, gardens, pathways, and waterfront areas, including mowing, weed-whacking, and general lawn care.

  • Maintain cleanliness of common areas, restrooms, workspaces, and specialized zones to meet health and safety standards.

  • Manage waste disposal and recycling processes efficiently.

  • Conduct routine inspections to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards and report issues promptly.

  • Use cleaning equipment and supplies safely and effectively.

  • Follow all health guidelines and safety regulations during cleaning and maintenance activities.

Operational & Event Support

  • Assist with setting up or rearranging spaces for events, retreats, and daily operations.

  • Work collaboratively with housekeeping as needed.

  • Support opening and closing of the property during the off-season.

  • Serve as on-call support throughout the operating season.

  • Provide weekend support during the off-season for private events and wedding weekends, acting as the primary on-site contact.

  • Oversee the property during the off-season and report issues to the Executive Director.

  • Participate in fundraising events to assist with operational needs.

  • Work as part of a dynamic team focused on delivering an exceptional guest experience.

 

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in general maintenance, team collaboration, and customer service is desirable.

  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on hygiene standards and safety protocols.

  • Ability to operate cleaning tools, lawn equipment, and maintenance machinery confidently.

  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.

  • Strong communication skills for reporting issues and coordinating with team members in a positive environment.

  • Physically capable of performing repetitive tasks involving bending, lifting, standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, and other general maintenance duties.

  • Knowledge of health regulations and safety procedures related to sanitation and facility maintenance.

  • Appreciation for Wiawaka’s mission, history, and community.
