SUMMARY:FUND for Lake George Salt Summit
DESCRIPTION:Excessive use of road salt for winter de-icing has caused salt levels in Lake George to triple over the past 30 years. As much as 39 metric tons are now being applied per line mile\, every winter totaling more than 15\,000 metric tons per per year in the Lake George watershed alone. This total does not include road salt application on private roads\, driveways\, and parking lots for which amounts are not available. Base on statistics from other locations\, this could actually double the total number to 30\,000 tons. Unless curbed\, the mounting threat posed by road salt is projected to have irreversible impacts.\n\n\n\nReduce the use! The Summit will feature industry leaders on latest methods and equipment for safely reducing the use of road salt. Participants of this invitation-only event will learn how to keep roads safe and the Lake healthy. The day-long program is free and designed for public and private winter road management professionals. Lunch and refreshments will be provided for participants.\n\n\n\nBenefits of Attending \n\n1. Latest data and science that supports protection of the Lake\n\n2. Live equipment demonstrations and best practices sharing\n\n3. Lunch and learn session featuring "Green Snow Pro Certification"\n\n4. Solutions discussion and development session\n\n\n\nWho should attend? Town and County Highway superintendents and highwaymen/plow operators\, Town and County elected officials\, private snow and ice management contractors\, State DOT officials\, and municipal purchasing agents.\n\n\n\nCo-hosted by The S.A.V.E. (Salt Abatement is Vital to the Ecology of) Lake George Partnership\, the Snow and Ice Management Association (SIMA)\, Metal Pless Inc.\, and the Adirondack Regional Chamber of Commerce (ARCC).\n\n\n\nFor more information including sponsorship opportunities and online registration\, visit fundforlakegeorge.org/saltsummit or contact The FUND for Lake George at info@fundforlakegeorge.org or 518 668 9700.
